Hansel Help Recipients

Our 2023 Recipients

Meet the amazing dogs who benefited from Hansel Help this year.

Our first Hansel Help recipient was also Brooklyn-based Cat Republic’s first dog rescue. She had a large facial wound and needed ear canal replacement surgery, which we helped fund.

Prisim

After being adopted from Brooklyn ACC as a puppy, now 2-year-old Bruce ended up back at the shelter and at risk for euthanasia. The wonderful Red Hook Dog Rescue saved him at the last minute, then found out he was very sick. We sent some Hansel Help and the rescue received more donations from Bruce’s adoring fans. He’s now thriving in a foster home, but deserves his forever! This sweetie is good with kids, cats, and dogs.

Even after a mammary tumor removal (fully funded by Hansel Help) and having to wear the cone of shame, Autumn will not put down her tennis ball, according to her foster family through NYC-based Loving Touch Rescue. This approx. 6-year-old sweetie also loves giving kisses!

Autumn

Brooklyn ACC volunteer fave Stella needed urgent rescue because she was at risk for severe pneumonia. Lend-A-Paw Inc. stepped up and saved the day, and we’ve helped fund her medical care. In her previous home, she was friendly with kids and other dogs, and she looooooves toys! PSST…SEE AN UPDATE ON STELLA IN HER FOREVER HOME HERE!

Sweet senior Hera was rescued from Brooklyn ACC by NY-based Posh Pets Rescue. She’s approx. 11 years old and dealing with some muscle issues and sores, so we sent some Hansel Help to aid in her medical care. Hera is a survivor — she was abandoned in a basement for 22 days before being brought to the shelter. Despite all she’s been through, volunteers describe her as “angelic!”

Periwinkle’s story had a rough start: she was found stray with a microchip and her owners didn’t want her returned. After three months at the shelter, she was at risk for euthanasia due to an eye infection. We pledged some Hansel Help to Southern CA rescue The Pitty Committee if they were able to save her, and they were! It’s time for Periwinkle to get the unconditional love she deserves.

Periwinkle

This powerfully adorable lady was found tied up in a park and ended up at Brooklyn ACC, at risk for possible pneumonia. The wonderful NYC-based AmsterDog Rescue saved this 10-month old puppy and we sent some Hansel Help their way. We can’t wait to watch her bloom!

Flower Power

Wobbly-walking, special needs sweetie Theo (formerly called Scobby) was rescued from Brooklyn ACC by New York-based Sweet Life Animal Rescue. We pledged some Hansel Help to assist with vet costs for neurological assessment and treatment for his ataxia (aka wobbling!). Next, he’ll be headed to a special-needs savvy foster home!

Theo (aka Scobby)

Sweet former stray Figaro is only about a year old and 40 pounds — he has a whole lot of life left to live and now can thanks to NY-based Posh Pets Rescue, who saved him from Brooklyn ACC! We sent some Hansel Help their way to help treat his patchy skin and bumps. We can’t wait to see him live his best new life!

9-year-old Sparkle lights up our life! She was surrendered by an owner who loved her but could no longer care for her. They reported she loves baths and water and is friendly with kiddos and new dogs and people, as well as tolerant of cats. She’s a dream doggo who’s now safely in foster thanks to NY-based Posh Pets Rescue! We sent some Hansel Help to treat a mass on her abdomen, and also because who could say no to that face??

Fan-fave Morales caught our eye when he was clearly terrified at the Brooklyn shelter after being found hiding under a car, so we offered Hansel Help if he was rescued. Thanks to the wonderful NYC-based AmsterDog Rescue, he’s now safely in a foster home — though he still needs a forever home ASAP! That shouldn’t be hard, considering this shy guy has started to come out of his shell with his foster mom and she says he has the qualifications of expert cuddler and ideal apartment pup.

California’s amazing The Pitty Committee saved former stray Willa, who also survived a parvo exposure at the shelter. This gorgeous girl is ready for a second act! She and another dog were involved in a bite incident while they were stray, but she has since become very affectionate with handlers and is ready for a foster and forever home! Could it be with you? Where there’s a Willa, there’s a way to happiness.

Willa

8-year-old Bella (formerly Gumdrop at ACC; though Bella was likely her name before she arrived at the shelter and is what she responds to) is blind and was absolutely terrified when she was brought to Brooklyn ACC, so we knew we needed to pledge some Hansel Help to support a rescue that would save her. She’s now in an amazing foster home through Muddy Paws Rescue in NYC! Though she can be nervous around new dogs, she’s doing well with other dogs in foster, and she would do best in a home with adults only or experienced, understanding older kids. Whatever’s next for her, we hope it’s as sweet as she is! PSST…SEE AN UPDATE ON BELLA IN HER FOREVER HOME HERE.

Super cute was Tyson recently saved from Brooklyn ACC by the amazing AmsterDog Rescue based in NY! This guy is a total gem. His previous family described him as “the best” but could no longer pay for medical care for his skin issues. Despite some patchiness, Tyson is a bouncy, happy 2-year-old who has been friendly with kids, other dogs, a cat, and even lizards and snakes in the house! What a resume. We sent some Hansel Help to assist with his medical care and help him find the happiest new home! PSST…SEE AN UPDATE ON TYSON IN HIS FOREVER HOME HERE!
