Forever Home Files: Rainy and Freyja
Possibly the best part of our work is seeing a dog who was once sick, scared, and struggling in a shelter end up living their best life in a loving forever home. When we first share our Hansel Help recipients, they’ve just been rescued and often look completely different weeks or months later after receiving the care they deserve in a foster or adopter’s home. It never ceases to amaze us how much of a difference proper care and love can make. The two pups featured here are prime examples of that — they were both rescued as part of our partnership with Hearts & Bones Rescue.
NYC-based Hearts & Bones Rescue received a Hansel Help grant with the specific goal of allowing them to save more pit bull-type dogs from NYCACC. Small and sweet mixed breed Rainy was one of their first pulls, and she was a pretty immediate foster fail! In fact, she was adopted by her family so fast, the rescue didn’t end up needing to use funding for her! Her family adores her. Whether it’s in Central Park or upstate, Rainy is living the life of an NYC It girl and we love to see it. 😍
Freyja from Rain or Shine Rescue and Hearts & Bones Rescue
Freyja was was rescued from Irving Animal Services in Irving, Texas by Hearts & Bones Rescue and was then transferred to Rain Or Shine Rescue to find her forever home. Our partner Hearts & Bones collaborated with Rain Or Shine and used some of their Hansel Help grant to help cover her medical care. After coming to the shelter emaciated, being rescued, and receiving heartworm treatment, this beautiful 3-year-old girl who gets along with other dogs, cats, *and* kids has now been adopted into her forever home, complete with doggy siblings! She’s a fantastic ambassador for what a fabulous addition rescue dogs can be to a family. Also, is it just us or could she be a dog harness model? Somebody get the agencies for PetSmart, Petco, and Wild One on the phone 😂🤩.
