Forever Home Files: Candy, Starbright, and Bella

Possibly the best part of our work is seeing a dog who was once sick, scared, and struggling in a shelter end up living their best life in a loving forever home. When we first share our Hansel Help recipients, they’ve just been rescued and often look completely different weeks or months later after receiving the care they deserve in a foster or adopter’s home. It never ceases to amaze us how much of a difference proper care and love can make. The three lucky ladies below are prime examples of that!

Candy from Healing Hounds Rescue
Candy was abandoned by a family who claimed they found her stray, but volunteers believed she was their dog. She needed some medical care (injured tail, diarrhea, kennel cough) so we pledged some Hansel Help if a rescue could step up and save her life. Thankfully, California-based Healing Hounds Rescue was able to swoop in to save her from the high-kill SEAACA at the last minute! She’s gone from skin and bones to being so loved by her new family and the queen of her cozy bed!

Starbright from Adore-A-Bullie Paws & Claws

This 2-or-3-year-old sweet girl was in the medical wing of Brooklyn ACC with skin issues and a wound on her foot, as well as some other needs. She was surrendered when her previous family could no longer care for her. She was rescued by NY-based Adore-A-Bullie and we sent some Hansel Help to assist with medical expenses. She was great with kids in her previous home and now has two to play with in her forever family! Her transformation is truly stellar.

Bella (aka Gumdrop) from Muddy Paws

8-year-old Bella (formerly Gumdrop) is blind and was absolutely terrified when she was brought to Brooklyn ACC, so we knew we needed to pledge some Hansel Help to support a rescue that would save her. That turned out to be NYC’s famous Muddy Paws Rescue, who supported her tirelessly, even when it wasn’t easy — Bella was later diagnosed with diabetes. Still, the amazing Muddy Paws team found a home for this senior girl in less than two months! Originally nervous around new dogs and barely able to walk a block when she got to her foster home, she now loves long walks with her forever family, including her canine brother!
